Two-dimensional Wannier excitons - effects of a random adiabatic potential

چکیده

We investigate the absorption spectrum and the distribution of radiative decay times for twodimensional (2D) excitons in semiconductor quantum wells, as affected by an adiabatic white-noise random potential. Such a potential could result from atomic-scale fluctuations in the composition of an alloy semiconductor, or in quantum well thickness. We find in general that the shortest radiative decay time is directly proportional to the inhomogeneous width of the exciton line in absorption, itself proportional to the correlation parameter for the random potential.

Localized diabatization applied to excitons in molecular crystals.

Traditional ab initio electronic structure calculations of periodic systems yield delocalized eigenstates that should be understood as adiabatic states. For example, excitons are bands of extended states which superimpose localized excitations on every lattice site. However, in general, in order to study the effects of nuclear motion on exciton transport, it is standard to work with a localized...

Closure relations for composite bosons: Difference between polaritons and Wannier or Frenkel excitons

We derive the closure relation for N polaritons made of three different types of excitons: bosonized excitons, Frenkel, or Wannier excitons. In the case of polaritons made of Wannier excitons, we show how this closure relation, which appears as nondiagonal, may reduce to the one of N elementary bosons, the photons, with its 1 /N! prefactor, or to the one of N Wannier excitons, with its 1 /N! 2 ...

Dependence of resonance energy transfer on exciton dimensionality.

We investigate the dependence of resonance energy transfer from Wannier-Mott excitons to an organic overlayer on exciton dimensionality. We exploit the excitonic potential disorder in a single quantum well to tune the balance between localized and free excitons by scaling the Boltzmann distribution of excitons through temperature. Theoretical calculations predict the experimentally observed tem...

Excitonic Eigenstates of Disordered Semiconductor Quantum Wires: Adaptive Wavelet Computation of Eigenvalues for the Electron-hole Schrödinger Equation

A novel adaptive approach to compute the eigenenergies and eigenfunctions of the two-particle (electron-hole) Schrödinger equation including Coulomb attraction is presented. As an example, we analyze the energetically lowest exciton state of a thin one-dimensional semiconductor quantum wire in the presence of disorder which arises from the non-smooth interface between the wire and surrounding m...

Diffusion quantum Monte Carlo study of excitonic complexes in two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides

Excitonic effects play a particularly important role in the optoelectronic behavior of twodimensional semiconductors. To facilitate the interpretation of experimental photoabsorption and photoluminescence spectra we provide (i) statistically exact diffusion quantum Monte Carlo bindingenergy data for a Mott-Wannier model of (donor/acceptor-bound) excitons, trions, and biexcitons in two-dimension...
